NAMI In The Lobby
It can be extremely stressful and traumatic to have a loved one in a hospital for a behavioral health emergency. To ease this stress increase access to mental health services and support, NAMI Montgomery County has developed the innovative program, NAMI in the Lobby.
NAMI in the Lobby’s mission is to engage families and caregivers of those with mental illness at local hospitals. Trained NAMI Montgomery County volunteers have a designated space at the Shady Grove Adventist Mental Health building and are available to provide mental health resources and support for family members and their loved ones. Our trained NITL Volunteers have lived experience in the mental health system and know just how stressful these experiences can be.
NAMI Montgomery County will encourage families to attends our free programs including classes such as Family to Family and Basics, as well as our Support Groups that are offered throughout the county. NAMI also offers our free Family and Peer Support Helpline, plus local events and resources.
NAMI Montgomery County volunteers will be available every Monday and Wednesday from 5 pm – 7:30 pm to assist families and caregivers in the emergency department with support and mental health resources.
